TODAY’S SPECIAL

Today’s Special is a series of week-long presentations in V1 Gallery’s downstairs gallery.
Today’s Special opens on Tuesdays and expires on Saturdays.
Today’s Special is compiled by the V1 Gallery staff and friends of gallery.

The fifth edition of Today’s Special, curated by V1 Gallery Director Mikkel Grønnebæk, presents a group of five Copenhagen-based artists: Kaspar Oppen Samuelsen, Coline Marotta, Magnus Vind, Mischa Pavlovski Andresen and Lulu Kaalund.

Glyphs that point to a long-lost system of writing, fragments of an error code, questions and answers, the tactile beauty of communication itself. A hand crocheted tapestry stretched on a wooden frame (textile design appropriated, or is this, too, language given form?). Then: figures. Primitive figurines of stoneware, but sensuously sculpted, at once erotic and crude, brimming with the joy of community. The alien intelligence of a pack of dogs, a parade, carrying a lonesome rider. Dreamers absorbed in dreams. Isolated lovers hibernating. Elsewhere, in a deep forest, a giant nude wanderer holds a pilgrim’s staff, as if it were an object of worship, except religiosity seems beside the point. Communion with something earthy, animalistic or psychedelic, where language escapes us, but which is nevertheless, undeniably, shared, felt.

However seemingly disparate, brought together, these imageries point to a local spirit, a connectedness across modes of expression, something like the subconscious which flows beneath culture itself

Remember today is special. Enjoy.
