The exhibition presents a new series of exuberant paintings and fluffy sculptures from the mind and hand of the Japanese master of intuitive contemporary kawaii. Over the past two decades Kawai has continued to engage, develop and expand the figurative language of painting, sculpture and installation. Vibrant and bold, often on the verge of compositional collapse, punk and cute, works with gut, history, humour, empathy and edge.
Misaki Kawai, b. 1978, Kawaga, Japan, and raised in Osaka, Japan, currently lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. recent solo exhibitions include Fluffy Paws, Studio d’Arte Raffaelli, Trento, Italy, 2021.
