V1 Gallery is proud to present BROKEN CAMERA at the 21st edition of Paris Photo, the world’s largest international art fair dedicated to the photographic medium, November 9-12, 2017 at the historic Grand Palais in Paris.

Grand Palais
Avenue Winston Churchill
75008 Paris

Broken Camera. A juxtaposition of four artists working within the realm of photography but with four distinctly different approaches to the media.
Asger Carlsen (b. 1973) will premier a new series of works that are formal, surreal and visceral at once. Photo based sculptural compositions dressed in layers of skin, patterns and debris.
Peter Funch (b. 1973) will premier the cinematic documentary project 42nd and Vanderbilt. For 9 years Funch photographed passers-by on the same corner in New York, catching glimpses of the same people over the period and juxtapositioning these portraits of familiar strangers. A new book with the project and an essay by Douglas Coupland, published by TBW Books, will be available for Paris Photo.
Fryd Frydendahl’s (b. 1983) 15-year project Nephews about grief and coming of age, has already been hailed as a classic in new Danish photography by art critics when it premiered at the gallery in 2017. We will display a curated group from Nephews.
Jacob Holdt’s (b. 1947) seminal project American Pictures is for many a cornerstone in contemporary photography – we will present a selection of works from his archive, some of which has never been displayed before. Holdt’s American Pictures are unfortunately as acutely important and relevant today as when they were first created.

Installation and library at Paris Photo with unique works by Rose Eken and special Paris Photo 2017 editions by Asger Carlsen, Peter Funch and Fryd Frydendahl.
