Bovo Covo embodies Thomas Campbell’s (b. 1969, USA) intuitive proficiency as print maker and colorist. Based on the form of the ox skull, each of the 50 editions linocuts are hand printed and hand colored with water color, Japanese chalk, spray paint and oil pastel on manila folders. The colors vary from dark teal, and greens with rich depths of brown and reddish, rounded off by fluid splodges and vibrant paint drips. The linocut series is accompanied by five hand-sewn one-of-one pieces. Eschewing straight lines and corners, Campbell sews together his collages of found pieces of paper and manila folders that allow new organic forms and pattens to occur where textures, papers and colors meet.
