Bordering on erotic poetry, Rose Eken’s new series of hand-colored silk scarves combines the delicacy of the fabric with the hardcore symbolism of the fetish objects painted onto them, like the vignettes of phallus-shaped forms or dancing stilletos. I Love You, I Love You, Oh Oh, the elegant sweeping letters states on one. With their formation of allusive forms and imagery, each scarf explores the complexities of love and desire, immaterial as well as physical, with both spontaneous joy and fashionable elegance.
Well-known for her meticulous still life objects in clay, Eken (b. 1975, DK) works in various scales from miniature tableaus to monumental murals and installations in public spaces. Eken lives and works in Vesterbro, Copenhagen. Educated from Royal College of Art in London in 2003, Eken has exhibited extensively in- and outside Denmark ever since, most recent at Franconia Sculpture Park, USA, Holly Golightly, Copenhagen, Denmark, Horsens Museum, Horsens, Denmark, Ragnarock, Roskilde, Denmark and Palais de la Porte Dorée, Paris, France.
