SELECTED WORKS ON PAPER BY B. THOM STEVENSON NOW AVAILABLE AT V1 GALLERY ONLINE STORE
By creating a contrast between the visual and the textual content, while simultaneously enhancing the partially violent visuality of the image, B. Thom Stevenson addresses the powerful influence exercised upon human identity by cultural models, media and politics. In this selection of five works on paper, available exclusively at V1 Gallery Online Store, Stevenson establishes a ritualistic imagery. An ancient bust, a distorted nude, a bootlegged Picasso head on an multi patterned background, a flower accompanied with the phrase “Sixteen L’Eclipse.” Using xeroxed images of paintings as reference, these works are xeroxed drawings originally drafted from observation or intervention. A cycle of imagery drawn from images of images. Stevenson explores the use and limits of language and semiotics as communicative tools.
