V1 Gallery Online Store is pleased to announce the release of Naughty Librarian, a limited edition silkscreen print by Todd James as finissage of his solo exhibition Interior at Eighteen.

Todd James has painted graffiti in New York in the early 80s under the moniker REAS, participated in the genre expanding exhibitions Beautiful Losers, Art In The Streets and Street Market that travelled to The Venice Biennale and designed commissioned projects for Colette and Opening Ceremony. In this way, he bridges the gaps between street art, commercial and fine arts. Influenced by the cartoons and comics of his youth, Todd James’ work adopts similar irony and forces perspectival flattening. Immediate and subtle at the same time. In Naughty Librarian we are treated to an interior setting of semi psychedelic colours – deceptively picturesque – that is from his recent body of work, reflecting on the rich tradition of interior paintings. These are “scenes” that are waiting for an action to be performed. Rather than willingly inscribes himself into the genre, Todd James defies the pensive and rearranges the objects – chairs, books, paintings and the recurring pink nude – into an alphabet of shapes.

Todd James (born in 1969) lives and works as artist and multi-disciplinary creator in New York, NY. He has upcoming solo exhibitions at Galeria Javier Lopez & Fer Frances, Madrid, Spain as part of ARCO 2018. Recent solo exhibitions include Interior at Eighteen, Copenhagen, Denmark, 2018, We Are One at Galeria Javier Lopez & Fer Frances, Madrid, Spain, 2017, and Stay Golden, AishoNanzuka, Hong Kong, China, 2016.
