V1 PROUDLY PRESENTS
YOU OWE THE CLOWN FOR PUTTING UP THAT NUDE FACE
A SOLO EXHIBITION BY ANIKA LORI

Working with a variety of media in an electic rock 'n' roll copy paste style, Anika Lori creates art that transgress formal barriers. For 'Helter Helter' Anika has created a new series of works that draw on the themes from her show 'You owe the clown for putting up that nude face' at V1 Gallery earlier this year. Something new, something borrowed, something old mixes in Anika's works. Weird animals, clowns, vintage porn, masks, fashion images, glimmer, mirrors, silk-paper, tin-foil, wigs and mustaches join hands in her collages and party like it's 2006.

The clown is a reccuring theme in Anika's pictures, not as a sad post modern clown or as a contrast to something more legitimate and real, but as a character you get to know and learn to appreciate. In the same way as the sexual content in Lori's works is not an expression of a problematic battle between the sexes but rather an appreciation and fascination of diverse sexualities.

Complementation rather then contrast. There is always more than meets the eye.

Anika Lori's works explode like a confetti packed fire cracker but leaves your ears ringing with strange poetry.
