V1 Gallery opened in a defunct bakery on the 22. November 2002 in Abselonsgade 21, Copenhagen, Denmark. Founded by Jesper Elg (Director and founding partner) and Peter Funch (Artist and founding partner, based in NY). The opening exhibition was Faile (NYC based artist collective) in dialogue with AKAY (Swedish) and one of the first guests was Mikkel Grønnebæk (CO–director and partner). V1 moved to a larger space in a former butchery in 2007 on Flæsketorvet 69 -71, Copenhagen, Denmark. The gallery represents a select group of emerging and established artists and is committed to introducing art, in all media, to an international audience. Seeing art as a profound and competent media for social and political discourse, the gallery aspires to serve as a platform for art that interacts with the surrounding (global) society. V1 gallery take part in art fairs around the world, collaborate with museums and other art institutions and curate exhibitions for private and public institutions. The title “ Tonight We Won’t Be Bored – 10 Years Of V1 Gallery “ pays tribute to the song Tannhauser / Derivè by the band Refused. The exhibition gathers some of the artists who have earlier exhibited in V1 Gallery, artists who are currently represented by the Gallery and a selection of artists new to V1. The exhibition will mainly consist of new works in a variety of media.
